The mission of the Department of Nursing is in congruence with the mission of the College. Access and excellence are hallmarks of the College and the department. The faculty of the Department of Nursing agrees that education has the power to positively transform the lives of individuals. We are committed to excellence in nursing education. Access to a nursing career is increased by providing students a choice of opportunities among its various nursing programs.
The department promotes success in a nursing career by assessing the readiness of its graduates throughout the educational experience. It is our goal to ensure that our graduates know success, employ their technological skills and help enrich their community, our nation and perhaps the world. We support lifelong learning and embrace career mobility. The nursing programs offer a flexible educational opportunity for motivated individuals seeking a career in nursing. Nursing courses are offered days (PN), evenings and weekends (RN) to accommodate working students. AAS graduates can articulate with the baccalaureate nursing program after New York State licensure is achieved. PN graduates are encouraged to apply for admission into the AAS program after achievement of licensure.
The philosophy of the Department of Nursing beliefs are consistent with the mission, goals, and objectives of the College. Faculty members of the Department of Nursing believe in preparing students for technical nursing practice to meet the needs of the local community and encourage them to gain experience in preparation for meeting the needs of our global society. Further, nursing faculty members believe that human beings, health, nursing, education and society represents the organizing framework in developing the curriculum for individual and family-centered practice in a variety of structured institutional settings including acute and long term care environments.
