The AFT is a 950,000-member union of public and professional employees,

Advancing Excellent Teaching in American
Schools
Annenberg/CPB uses media and telecommunications to advance excellent
teaching in American schools. This mandate is carried out chiefly
by the funding and broad distribution of educational video programs
with coordinated Web and print materials for the professional development
of K-12 teachers. It is part of The Annenberg Foundation and advances
the Foundation's goal of encouraging the development of more effective
ways to share ideas and knowledge.
Annenberg/CPB's multimedia resources help teachers increase their
expertise in their fields and assist them in improving their teaching
methods. Many programs are also intended for students in the classroom
and viewers at home. All Annenberg/CPB videos exemplify excellent
teaching.

Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD)
Founded in 1943, ASCD is an international, nonprofit, nonpartisan
organization; its members span the entire profession of educators—superintendents,

Close Up Foundation
Each year, more than 20,000 students and teachers come to Washington,
DC with the Close Up foundation for a "close-up" experience
in goverment. Its Web site offers valuable curricular materials
for civic education, as well as information about Close Up's state
and local programs.

Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)
The Council for Exceptional Children is the largest international
professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes
for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities,
and/or the gifted. CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies,
sets professional standards, provides continual professional development,
advocates for newly and historically underserved individuals with
exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions and
resources necessary for effective professional practice.

First Amendment Center
The First Amendment Center works to preserve and protect First Amendment
freedoms through information and education. With offices in Nashville,
Tennessee, and Arlington, Virginia, the center serves as a forum

Principals (NASSP)
In existence since 1916, the National Association of Secondary School
Principals (NASSP) is the preeminent organization of and national
voice for middle level and high school principals, assistant principals,
and aspiring school leaders from across the United States and more

professional development opportunities, and relevant research, NASSP
carries out its mission to promote excellence in middle level and

Education (NCATE)
Founded in 1954, NCATE is a resource to the states in standards
