Dear Alumni,

The new academic year is under way and, as is always the case on campus, it will be one of new and exciting things to come.

First, on Thursday, October 4th the College will host its 7th Annual Legacy Awards Gala & Dinner at the New York Marriott at Brooklyn Bridge Hotel. By now you should have received your invitations to this spectacular event.  This year’s honorees are:  Karl and Faye Rodney, Founders, CARIB News; Alan Fishman, Chairman, Meridian Capital Group LLC; Dr. Wendell E. Clement, Dean of Academic Affairs Emeritus, Medgar Evers College; Alicia Joseph (Class of 1998), Medgar Evers College Alumni; and Special Legacy Award Honoree, Ed Goldberg, SVP of Consumer and Government Affairs, Macy’s East Inc. Special guest entertainment will be provided by Paris Bennett, 2006 American Idol contestant.

We are asking all alumni to come out and support the Gala.  Funds raised by the event are used to endow scholarships for future students.  Tickets are $250 and may be purchased here, or by calling the Office of Alumni Relations at 718-270-6975. At the Gala, the college will raffle off a Mercedes Benz C-Class 280. Tickets are $100.  As an added incentive, anyone who sells 10 tickets will receive one free; if you sell the winning ticket you will receive $1,000. If you are interested in purchasing or selling tickets, please contact Ms. Battle at 718-270-5025 or email marge@mec.cuny.edu. The College would like this year to be one of our most successful fundraising efforts ever, so I’m hoping to see you all there.

Second, on Thursday, September 20th Medgar Evers College will have the first of three Citibank Alumni Seminars for the fall semester.  This series includes:  1) Give Yourself Credit and What’s Your Credit Worth - Thursday, September 20th; 2) Home Buying and Home Equity – Thursday, October 18th; and 3) Identity Theft – Thursday, November 15th.  All seminars will be held on the Third Floor of One MetroTech Center North at 6:00 pm.  Please RSVP to Nandani Appana at 718-241-7265 or nandani.appana@citigroup.com.

Third, on Saturday, November 10, 2007, the College - in collaboration with The Thurgood Marshall College Fund - will host an all day Alumni Leadership Institute on campus.  This is a wonderful opportunity for all alumni to become more engaged in College activities, so please mark your calendars for that day.  You will receive more details about the event shortly in a separate mailing.

Last, but not least, I wish to thank all of you who have made a gift to the College’s First Annual Fund Campaign.   For those of you who have not contributed, please reconsider as your charitable support helps the College to build a strong future for a new generation of leaders.  No matter how large or small your gifts, your contributions are both noted and appreciated.

Please continue to support the College as we “create success, one student at a time.”

Sincerely,

Rachelle Taylor
