In light of the devastating events in Haiti, the Medgar Evers College family extends its thoughts and prayers to all the people of Haiti, as well as those who have been directly or indirectly impacted by this tragedy.

The College has been working to provide counseling services for those students, faculty, and staff who have been affected. If you would like to speak to someone, please call the Office of Student Affairs at 718-270-6046. The College is also in the process of creating an Interim Counseling Center, the location and schedule of which will be posted here shortly.

A Disaster Relief Fund Account #3604912 has been established and donations of cash, money orders or checks can be deposited in the Bursar’s Office Room S-308. The funds will be routed to relief organizations on the ground in Haiti, such as Doctors without Borders, OXFAM, Save the Children, and other such support entities. To donate money online,

The College will be hosting a Candlelight Vigil on Thursday, January 28 in the Amphitheater of the Bedford Building, from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M.

The College will also host a Temporary Protected Status (TPS) filing event on Saturday, January 30, which will assist Haitian immigrants in processing their applications to request temporary protective status within the United States for a period of eighteen months (18). The event will occur from 11:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Doors will close at 4:00 P.M. This will be sponsored by the CUNY Citizenship Now Program, the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance Bureau of Refugee and Immigrant Assistance, and Medgar Evers College. Also, on January 30, the West Indian American Day Carnival Association will hold a solidarity march and rally beginning at 11:00 A.M. The rally will start at the corner of Church and Rogers Avenues and end at the Medgar Evers College Amphitheater. For more information, click here.
