The vision of the Medgar Evers College Center for Religious Studies (CRS) is to equip leaders, lay and ordained, with the necessary tools to make a difference in the local and global community. The mission of the CRS is to prepare clergy, lay leaders and persons of related fields to create new paradigms for solving urban challenges by affecting community transformation. We will do this proactively by addressing the continuing education needs of local faith communities; by forging dynamic partnerships between our institution and local communities of faith; and by supporting and stimulating interfaith dialogue. Goals
Courses The Center for Religious Studies offers a variety of educational courses. A typical course is a 16-hour class divided in four topical sections. “Building Communities through Leadership and
Voluntarism,” is designed to increase the capacity of small, medium and large churches to minister to their communities. This course is offered in conjunction with the Center for Philanthropy, The Graduate Center, CUNY. Proceeding from the premise that effective social and spiritual ministering are profoundly intertwined, the course objective is to increase the church’s capacity by increasing the effective use of its financial and human resources.
