Of all the athletics programs at Medgar Evers, the Track & Field and Cross Country teams are the only ones who have consistently produced top athletes year round. This is due to the rigorous training that the athletes undertake at the hands of Head Coach Alphonso Dance and Assistant Coach Peter MacPherson. The Cougars train daily and work constantly on improving individual and team performances, which is evident in competition.

The Track & Field teams boast seasoned athletes like Amanda David, Vanessa Pean and Rogelio Knights Jr., and newer talent is present on the squad as well in the form of Durrell Stallworth and Dwight Williams. These already talented individuals, under the leadership of Coaches Dance and MacPherson, as well as the other members of the track & field teams, will definitely be contenders in track meets to come.

WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: 5/26/05
AMANDA DAVID TO REPRESENT MEC AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Amanda David will continue the impressive legacy of Medgar Evers College track and field athletes who have competed in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championships when she represents the college at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships from May 26 to May 28 at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.

David will be competing in her signature event the women’s shot put.

This is first time the junior, who hails from Carriacou, Grenada, will be competing in an NCAA Championship. She however has dominated the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) in the shot put since her freshman year. This year she broke both the outdoor and indoor CUNYAC records while repeating as the conference champion. During the indoor track season she won the shot put event at the prestigious Colgate Games.

"Amanda has always had the talent," said Alphonso Dance, the Head Track and Field Coach at Medgar Evers College. "This year she is putting everything together and she wants to win."

Amanda has won most of the events she has competed in this year. At the CUNYAC Outdoor Championships she showed her versatility by winning the discus and the javelin events. In the javelin, she set a new CUNYAC record with a throw of 31.46 meters.

On May 27 she will make up a field of 18 competitors who are vying to be the NCAA Division III Champion in the shot put. Everyone at Medgar Evers College wishes Amanda GOOD LUCK.
