Of all the athletics programs at Medgar Evers, the Track & Field and Cross Country teams are the only ones who have consistently produced top athletes year round. This is due to the rigorous training that the athletes undertake at the hands of Head Coach Alphonso Dance and Assistant Coach Peter MacPherson. The Cougars train daily and work constantly on improving individual and team performances, which is evident in competition.
The Track & Field teams boast seasoned athletes like Amanda David, Vanessa Pean and Rogelio Knights Jr., and newer talent is present on the squad as well in the form of Durrell Stallworth and Dwight Williams. These already talented individuals, under the leadership of Coaches Dance and MacPherson, as well as the other members of the track & field teams, will definitely be contenders in track meets to come.

CARL THOMPSON JUST MISSES NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
Despite an excellent season, Carl Thompson missed out on representing Medgar Evers College at the National Collegiate Athletic Conference (NCAA)
Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the high jump by ¼ inch.
Thompson, a junior from St. Jago High School in Jamaica, West Indies, had jumped 6-foot-8 inches this year. However, the NCAA Track and Field
Committee determined that the cut-off point would be 6-foot-81/4 inches. Ironically, if the committee had used the same cut of point from last
year’s championships, Thompson would have made the cut.
While he is obviously disappointed, Thompson still had an excellent year competing in the high jump and the 400 meters for Medgar Evers College.
In the high jump, Thompson broke the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) records at both the indoor and outdoor championships.
His personal best height of 6-foot-8 inches was accomplished at the Captain’s Classic Track Meet, hosted by Christopher Newport University in April.
"Carl has firmly established himself as the premier high jumper in the CUNY Athletic Conference," said Alphonso Dance, head coach of
the Medgar Evers College track and field team. "Our goal for next year will be to definitely build on this year’s accomplishments and head
to the next level."
