Freshman Requirements

An applicant for freshman admission to Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York (CUNY) must present evidence of having received either a high school diploma from an accredited institution, or a New York State General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Please note that an IEP diploma is not accepted.

Admission to the baccalaureate degree program requires an applicant to have:

  • a minimum high school average of 80 with at least 17 academic units such as four units of English, four units of social studies, three units of mathematics, two units of a foreign language, two units of sciences, and two units of regular academic subjects, and
  • a minimum SAT score of 960 (480 Verbal 480 Math) or ACT composite score of 20 or above. In addition, applicants that submit a GED need a score of 2250 or better.

An applicant who does not meet the above criteria may be accepted into the associate degree program provided they have a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) with a minimum score of 2250 or higher.

CUNY Freshman Skills Assessment Test

Please note that all freshmen are required to complete the CUNY Freshman Skills Assessment Tests in reading, writing and mathematics prior to registration. Applicants must be skill exempt for acceptance into a four-year degree program. Exemption is based on the applicant's SAT (480 or above in both the Verbal and Math), ACT (20 or above), the NYS Regents in English and Sequential Math II or III (75 or above) scores, or by passing the exams themselves.

Health Services Requirements

In accordance with standards approved by the New York State Department of Health, Students born after January 1, 1957 and plan to register for at least semester hours, must submit proof of immunization against Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR), to our Health Services office prior to registration. In addition, you must complete and submit a Meningococcal Meningitis Vaccination Response Form. Your registration will be held unless these forms are submitted. Residency Requirements

In order to qualify for in state tuition all applicants must provide proof of residency within New York State for a minimum of twelve consecutive months. To find out more about how to prove residency, please download our Residency Verification Form.

Being considered for the SEEK Program

SEEK (Search for Education, Elevation and Knowledge) is a program of the City University of New York designed for eligible students who require intensive academic and financial support to complete a college degree. A stipend for educational expenses is awarded to those students who are eligible.
