Deborah Young, Director

The Career Management Services Center (CMSC) is the single most significant career resource for Medgar Evers students on-campus, providing career-oriented activities where students develop strategies for career management and career planning. The CMSC services: events, workshops, resources and professional skills programs, are designed to assist students in defining their career goals and to acquire the soft skills, knowledge, workplace etiquette, intern-ships and experiences to make a smooth transition from student to professional as well as to transition through career changes.

It is the goal of the CMSC to empower students to be pro-active about managing their own career paths. A calendar of events and workshops is available to students during each semester. College Central Network (CCN) is a jobs board and resume database which is also a vital tool for staff to contact students in the recruitment process and to communicate important information. The VAULT (Online Career Library) is another vital resource students are encouraged to use frequently. Help sheets are available when necessary and any questions about resources can be answered promptly by calling the center. Please explore all links to resources located on the right side of this page for more search options.

STUDENTS.

At the Career Management Services Center (CMSC), students are required to register and create a profile on College Central Network (CCN)— the career online jobs board for MEC students. The next step is to upload a resume for applying to positions and for easy future access from the database. The resume is then reviewed for approval and you can choose to make your resume public or keep it private. Through CCN you can also receive communication emails about job postings and events directly in your email inbox; also, employers list their positions from various local and national locations. A Student Guide is available to help you get started.

The CMSC also highly recommends VAULT--Online Career Library as a valuable career library resource. You can use VAULT to:

  • Download information on Industry Career Guides, Industry Employer Guides and other Career Topic Guides.
  • Get advice and information and network with other job seekers on the largest online career community with Vault's Electronic Watercooler - called a "killer app" by the New York Times.
