The Department of Mathematics offers a curriculum that engages students in a substantial intellectual endeavor, increases students’ appreciation of the role of mathematics in the evolution of culture, and assists students in preparing for a career in which mathematics is directly or indirectly involved. Since mathematics is essential to both the liberal arts and the sciences, the Department offers courses for students in both of these areas to meet their particular objectives or needs, as well as for other professional fields.
