Courses for Mathematics and Science Majors
|
The Department of Mathematics is committed
to a curriculum that strives to prepare students to meet the challenges of
a changing society. Since mathematics is essential to both the liberal
arts and the sciences, this department offers a sufficient number of
courses from which students in either of these areas can make a selection
designed to satisfy their particular objectives or needs. The department
offers courses designed for professional fields as well. Offerings in
mathematics seek to enlarge students in a substantial intellectual
endeavor, to increase students' appreciation of the role of mathematics in
the evolution of culture, and to assist students in preparing for a career
in which mathematics is directly or indirectly involved.
1. The Department of Mathematics course offerings are generally designed to accommodate, in an optimal way, the needs and the desires of the following group of students; and 2. The sizeable group of students who base their interest in mathematics to a very large degree on an understanding of the relationship that mathematics has with other disciplines.
