The Department of Mathematics Faculty
Dr. Faranak Pahlevani is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Medgar Evers College of CUNY since September 2006. Prior to joining the Department of Mathematics at MEC, Dr. Pahlevani was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Montana State University for two years during which she worked with Professor Lisa Davis on a project entitled as Sensitivity Analysis for the Optimal Design and Control of Micro Air-Vehicles. Dr. Pahlevani has completed her Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics at University of Pittsburgh in August 2004. She holds two Masters degrees in Industrial Mathematics and Pure Mathematics respectively from University of Kaiserslautern and IASBS of Zanjan. Dr. Pahlevani has received her B.Sc. in Mathematics from the Sharif University of Technology. Dr. Pahlevani's research is in the area of computational mathematics with a particular interest in Sensitivity Analysis that has applications in different branches of science (Biology, Physics, Finance and Mathematics) as well as engineering. The main focus of her research is the development and implementation of Sensitivity Equation Methods for models in Partial Differential Equations which primarily involves the areas of Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing. She is a founding member and co-director of the CUNY Applied Mathematics Seminar at the Graduate Center. For a more detailed description of her professional activities, visit her Personal Home Page.
