MEC-Woodrow Wilson Foundation Leadership Program for
Biology and Mathematics Teachers

Medgar Evers College has developed a collaborative program with the Woodrow Wilson Foundation to prepare local high school teachers, in the Central Brooklyn area, to teach a higher standard of biology and mathematics in their classes.

Participating High Schools include:

Medgar Evers Middle College High School

Clara Barton High School

Benjamin Bannekar High School

Prospect Heights High School

The program introduces biology and math teachers from participating high schools to advance content, interactive and inquiry-based classrooms, and integrated technologies.

Over the course of three years, the teachers will:

  • participate in week-long workshops during the academic year, co-facilitated by Woodrow Wilson Teachers and college faculty,

  • study along with pre-service teachers,

  • be paired with mentors from among Medgar Evers College faculty,

  • attend Woodrow Wilson residential, leadership institutes over the summer,

  • be part of Woodrow Wilson's online teacher development initiative.

The program is designed to move systemic change into the classroom to assure that teachers alter their classroom practice and that this growth leads to measurable improvements in student learning and achievement scores.
