Department Mission and Goals


  • to increase the participation of students with diverse educational, socio-political, and cultural backgrounds in the biological sciences, in the professions of medicine, dentistry, research, teaching, and in biologically-related fields, 

  • to provide students with the essential knowledge and skills needed for career advancement and professional mobility in the biological sciences and other areas, 

  • to provide students with the knowledge of the role that modern biological sciences and technology play in society and to provide them with a sense of responsibility for their humanistic application, 

  • to prepare students for leadership roles in their communities and to foster their personal growth and development, 

  • to enrich the knowledge and experiences of residents of the community in the biological sciences, and 

  • to increase community awareness and interaction in order to provide the community with the necessary knowledge and commitment to advocate for increased support for students and programs in the biological sciences.
