The Credit for Life Experience Program is designed for the student who has been out of school for a period of time and has accumulated work/life experiences during the interim. College credit can be earned for knowledge and skills that were acquired through work/life experience prior to returning to school. Credit is given to students who can demonstrate that the learning and skills they acquired from work, non-classroom study, etc. are equivalent to the learning outcomes expected for particular courses within the College.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be enrolled at Medgar Evers College at the time the application is submitted.
  • Must have completed 24 college credits. English 100 (or its equivalent) and English 150 must be a part of these required 24 credits.
  • Must be in good academic standing.

Please note the following: Credits being requested through the Credit for Life Experience Program may not be the balance of the credits required to graduate. A maximum of 15 credits toward the Baccalaureate degree and a maximum of six credits toward the Associate degree may be earned through this program.

Applications for the Fall semester must be submitted between 15 September and 15 October.

Applications for the Spring semester must be submitted between 31 January and 28 February.

Questions concerning the Credit for Life Experience Program and procedures for obtaining credit should be directed to Gail Drakes in the Office of Academic Affairs, Room 3010 of the Bedford Building at Medgar Evers College. Phone: 718.270.5010. E-mail: gdrakes@mec.cuny.edu.
