THE PROVOST OUTLINES THE GOALS AND ACTIVITIES OF THE ADP TO FACULTY AND STAFF

At the stated meeting of the faculty on Monday, 27 October, 2003, the Provost, Dr. Dr. Charlotte Phoenix summarizes the aims, goals, and activities of the American Democracy Project at the stated meeting of the faculty. He explained to faculty that the project is aimed at helping undergraduates become better citizens by fostering the understanding of and commitment to meaningful civic involvement. American Democracy Project seeks to integrate academic and student life programs so that students will be encouraged to see the connections between what they study and what they do as members of their communities such as voting, social advocacy, local volunteerism and other civic activities necessary for the vitality of a democracy. The views of the faculty, which were expressed at the two meetings of the project, were also articulated by the provost. Finally, the Provost charged the faculty to develop strategies which will include these goals in their course content and college curriculum. He also charged them to make the goals of the ADP an integral part of the life of the Medgar Evers College campus. The President and about 100 faculty and staff were in attendance. Below is the Provost’s power point presentation.
