The Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) provides academic leadership to the College’s academic programs. In keeping with the mission and goals of the College, it promotes outstanding teaching, research and scholarship. At Medgar Evers College, we take very seriously our motto of"Courage. Strength. Fortitude." The Office of Academic Affairs is committed to the College’s mission of developing and maintaining high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs. Access and academic excellence are included as part of our mission as we seek to serve students who have diverse educational, socioeconomic, political, cultural and national backgrounds.

Medgar Evers College affords its students’ a diversified academic experience through the educational programs offered by its schools, departments and offices.

PBI

Predominantly Black Institutions (PBI) is a program to establish or strengthen programs in Science, Technology, English, Education, Mathematics, Health Education and Globalization and improve educational outcomes of African American students. It is put in place to:

  • Increase students retention and improve graduation rates
  • Increase student involvement in their field of study
  • Promote activities that support students’ development of academic goals
  • Faculty work closely with students to promote learning and enhance professional skills needed in their field of study

CENTER FOR TEACHING & LEARNING

Welcome to the Medgar Evers College (MEC) Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE). The CTLE is a multi-functional center designed to develop and expand quality professional development for MEC faculty. The Center is an information and support “hub” for all faculty development needs and interests – all in one central location!

The goals of the MEC Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence are to:

  • Support and encourage faculty scholarship and engagement in research and creative work that advances knowledge and enriches the learning experience of students;
  • Provide professional development that will serve to enhance student co-curricular and extracurricular activities in the life of the College so as to  enrich student experiences, advance student engagement and promote student success;
  • Enhance and strengthen an environment of community, collegiality and sharing so as to recruit, develop and retain highly qualified and knowledgeable faculty;
  • Strengthen interdisciplinary relationships between Centers and academic units to supplement and augment the integration of research, outreach, and/or community education activities of academic and administrative departments;
  • Support faculty holistically, focusing on the body, mind spirit connection that encourages full human development and growth and;
  • Support faculty in learning and implementing virtualization technologies to their teaching repertoire that will extend cutting edge computing to students anywhere, anytime.

    The CTLE serves as a conduit to various MEC institutional centers and units including:

    • Sponsored Programs,
    • Research and Grants;
    • Faculty Computing (CUNYfirst, Blackboard & ePortfolio);
    • Study Abroad (Faculty/Student exchanges & Distance Learning initiatives);
    • Student Life; Service Learning; and others.

STUDENT ORIENTATION

As a new student to the College, you are bound to have questions. New Student Orientation is designed to help the answers those questions and provide you with important information about campus resources, programs and services. At the conclusion of orientation, you will leave with valuable information pertinent to your academic and personal success as a Medgar College Evers student.
 
Additionally, New Student Orientation will provide you with a chance to meet other incoming Medgar Evers College students and build a network of resources that will help you to start your journey at the College on the right path.
