Reset My Password FAQ

 

Dear MEC Faculty/Staff members:

Medgar Evers College myPassword Self-Service permits self-service maintenanceof your MEC password for logging onto the Medgar Evers College network (desktop computer) log on, e-mail log on. Once registered for the myPassword service you can reset or change your MEC password in case it expires or is forgotten. myPassword requires a series of challenge questions that you will establish, that are used to reset a password. If you have any questions please call the IT Service Desk at x6262This service will NOT reset passwords for CUNYFirst, Blackboard, or the CUNY Portal.

Q. What is My Password?

A. My Password allows faculty and staff to create a personal account profile for their network/e-mail log-in account through a series of challenge questions with answers. This is then used for security purposes if you were to forget your password. You would be able  via a secure webpage, to  change your password by answering these security questions you initially set-up.

Q. What happens if I am not on campus on the day that may password expires?

A. You can change your password on-line by visiting https://namespace.mec.cuny.edu/mypassword.aspx You may visit this site on the day your password expires or any day after the expiration date. Please keep in mind that in order to use a computer on-campus, Outlook Web Access, the wireless network or the Faculty/Staff e-mail system, you will need to change your password before you can login

Q. Can I still reset my password using traditional methods?

A. Yes. you can still change your password through the PC or Outlook Web Access

Q. How do I access My Password to update/change/edit my profile

A. Go to the following website: https://namespace.mec.cuny.edu/mypassword.aspx and click on edit my profile to create or edit your existing profile. You can also change or reset your password by clicking on the appropriate links

Q. I am trying to reset my password, but the system will not take one of my answers to the question?

A. Please make sure that you are correctly typing in the answer. Make sure that the CAPS key is not on by accident unless your typed your answer in CAPS. If you still cannot answer one of your questions, the helpdesk will need to reset your password manually and then reregister for myPassword.

Q. What are the Password Requirements?

A. Password Requirements

  • Password must be at least 8 characters long
  • contain at least 1 uppercase letter,
  • contain at least one numeric char OR one special character, and
  • cannot be one of your 4 previous passwords or contain your username.
Q. What happens if my password expires and I do not change my

A. Once the date comes that your password will expire, if you do not change your password, you will not be able to log into a computer on campus, access the wireless network nor access your e-mail until you have changed your password. Please either log into a PC Computer on campus and once prompted to change your expired password you change your password or log on to the My Password website
