What is Middle States Accreditation? MEC Self-Study Committees: Structure and Membership |
Self-Study Timeline Fall 2004 President announces at the College Retreat and in the State of College Address that the College will undergo a Middle States Commission Visit and that College will conduct Self-Study. September 2004 Announcement of Chair and Co-Chairs of the Self-Study is made at the Stated Meeting of the Faculty and to the Cabinet. October/November 2004 President, Self-Study Chair and Vice Co-Chairs attend the Self-Study Institute and the Middle States Conference. December/January 2005 The Self-Study leadership team and the President begin the process of selecting Steering Committee members. Cabinet members, Deans, department chairs, and area heads are asked for suggestions, and are informed that the process is open-ended. President Jackson charges the College-wide Assessment Council with the additional responsibility of providing resources, guidance and workshops to the Self-Study Subcommittees. The Council was also charged to continue research to identify appropriate instruments, research on student outcomes, and professional development opportunities for faculty and subcommittee members. February 2005 The President, the leadership team and the Steering Committee decide on a comprehensive approach to the Self-Study. The President, Chair and Vice Co-Chairs, with the consent of the Steering Committee, create eight Self-Study Subcommittees by clustering the fourteen Standards according to their relatedness. March 2005 Kick-Off Celebration provides a “thank you” luncheon for membership following a detailed overview of the Self-Study process. April/May 2005 Subcommittees commence deliberations to consider subcommittee charges; to review “draft” charge questions; identify pertinent issues; begin collection of assessment instruments/documents; and complete the assessment culture matrix survey. The Chair and Vice Co-Chairs of the Self-Study Team meet with the HEO (Professional) Staff at the College-wide HEO Meeting to provide an overview of the Self-Study Process. The Chair leads a power point presentation that outlines the key components of the plan and the ways in which HEO staff are critical to ensuring that the self-study process is inclusive and comprehensive. June/July 2005 Subcommittees submit minutes, reports, and “draft” questions to the Steering Committee and Leadership Team for inclusion into the Self-Study draft design. Self-Study Draft Design approved and forwarded to MSC Staff Liaison. August / September 2005
