The AFT is a 950,000-member union of public and professional employees, including public and private school teachers, paraprofessionals and school-related personnel , higher education faculty and professionals, employees of state and local governments, nurses and health professionals.

Advancing Excellent Teaching in American Schools

Annenberg/CPB uses media and telecommunications to advance excellent teaching in American schools. This mandate is carried out chiefly by the funding and broad distribution of educational video programs with coordinated Web and print materials for the professional development of K-12 teachers. It is part of The Annenberg Foundation and advances the Foundation's goal of encouraging the development of more effective ways to share ideas and knowledge.

Annenberg/CPB's multimedia resources help teachers increase their expertise in their fields and assist them in improving their teaching methods. Many programs are also intended for students in the classroom and viewers at home. All Annenberg/CPB videos exemplify excellent teaching.

Each year, more than 20,000 students and teachers come to Washington, DC with the Close Up foundation for a "close-up" experience in goverment. Its Web site offers valuable curricular materials for civic education, as well as information about Close Up's state and local programs.

Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)

The Council for Exceptional Children is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted. CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional standards, provides continual professional development, advocates for newly and historically underserved individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.

The First Amendment Center works to preserve and protect First Amendment freedoms through information and education.
