MEC LCN Breakfast Series 2000 - 2001

On Wednesday, November 1st, the first Network Breakfast for
the 2000-2001 school year was held. Mr. Charles Majors,
Principal of Middle College High School, served graciously
as our host. He provided a brief history of his school,
an overview of the present curriculum and programs, and
a guided tour of the new building. All Network partners
received Middle College HS memorabilia. During the meeting,
other Network members shared information about their organizations.
Medgar Evers College faculty gave an update and relevant
information about new grants and initiatives, such as
GEAR UP, College NOW, and Writing Across the Curriculum.
The Network Update will be a regular feature in our monthly
meetings. Network Members, who wish to disseminate information,
should bring to the meeting materials in the amount of

The Learning Community Network December Breakfast We ended
our fall Learning Community Network Breakfast series with
a very successful visit to Paul Robeson High School. Robeson's
Principal, Ira Weston, assembled an impressive team, which
included students, staff, and business and community partners,
to present an overview of the school's program and provide
insights about developing and sustaining successful partnerships.
Our guest speaker, Eva Graham, Director of Outreach, Recruitment
and Enrichment, National Action Council for Minorities
in Engineering, presented highlights of the NACME program.
In addition, Donald La Huffman, Manager, Community Outreach,
Kings County Hospital shared materials about Child Health
Plus. |

On February 28th, our Spring Learning Community Network Breakfast
series began with an exciting and informative visit to
The Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Sharon A. Myrie, Vice President
of Education, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and her staff were
our gracious hosts. They shared information about the
Garden's wonderful educational programs and provided a
tour of the Conservatory. The Garden was an elegant setting
for a candid conversation with our guest speaker, Reverend
Floyd Flake, President of Edison Schools Charter Division.
Sean Devlin, Deputy Director of The Sojourn Project concluded
the morning presentations with an overview of his exemplary
program. |
