COURAGE STRENGTH FORTITUDE
In accordance with the practice of research libraries, faculty and graduate students engaged in thesis research are eligible for loans. Materials available in CUNY libraries and other local libraries will be our first access points for borrowing. Thereafter, CEIML will request materials from regional, or foreign institutions. We are a free (without fee) lender and seek similar services from others if lender does charge the CEIML patron will be notified as to the cost before the materials are requested.
CEIML's general clientele include: CUNY, Academic Libraries of Brooklyn (ALB), and other consortia and lending institutions within the greater tri-state area and throughout the nation via document delivery and interlibrary loan services.
Loans from the CEIML are made subject to compliance with the following regulations and instructions and is provisioned by the national interlibrary loan code of the American Library Loan Code of the American Library Association.
Readers must fill out an application form for each item requested. Requested articles should include: journal title, article title, volume, issue no. Pages, author and a preferred deadline date. An additional ILL training manual is being revised for consultation and problem solving.
Types of Loans
The CEIML reserves the right to determine whether material will be lent in their original form or as a photocopy. Photocopies sent instead of the original will be supplied without charge to the libraries in the United States. These photocopies may be retained permanently by the borrowing libraries unless their return is specifically requested by the CEIML. Photocopies of periodical articles will be limited to no more than one article per issue and three articles per volume from any journal. Multiple copies will not be furnished.
Loan periods shall extend for five weeks, with a renewal option for one additional week at CEIML’s discretion. Renewal requests must be made two weeks prior to the item’s due date. An original volume loaned by CEIML may be recalled at any time, as well as items which have holds or rush recalls placed on them.
Limitations on Loans
Periodicals (complete issues), media, reference, reserve, and rare books are not lent out. Medgar Evers faculty and staff are eligible to request ILL materials. Students are referred to use CLICS.
In 2006, CUNY implemented CLICS (CUNY Libraries Inter-Campus Services) which allows CUNY faculty, staff and students to borrow circulating materials from any CUNY library.
In the event that a CUNY library does not have the materials or item that a student needs, the student should obtain a signed permission form from a professor to borrow materials through ILL.

Delivery and Returns
Items are to be returned to the ILL Coordinator or ILL Assistant by the due date indicated on the material, this excludes articles.
