The School of Science, Health and Technology

Mission and  Goals

Our mission is to provide a strong foundation in the sciences for career-oriented undergraduate students  by creating an academic environment that encourages innovation in teaching, learning and research in order to fully engage and deepen the student experience.

Our goals are to maintain a rigorous undergraduate curriculum with contemporary relevance; provide students hands-on learning experience through research involvement;  promote academic and professional success of students through a supportive network; increase teaching and research capacity by hiring additional faculty with strong publication and grantsmanship records; support research and other professional development for faculty and staff; devise instructional strategies based on the data on student learning outcome assessment; expand program and course offerings based on market needs.

Dean’s Welcome:

The School of Science, Health and Technology (SSH&T) enrolls over 40% of the students in the college. We are housed in a 195,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art building with two  multi-million dollar core research facilities in the areas of cellular-molecular biology and chemical analysis.

In recent years, we have grown significantly in several critical areas including student enrollments, graduation, faculty hiring and faculty grantsmanship. We have engaged our faculty students and alumni in SSH&T’s various intentional intervention programs including Student Research Competition, Minority Health Issues Seminars, Women in Science and Math Seminars, Dean’s Honor List Award, Student Town Hall Meetings, Student mentoring support initiative and  Annual faculty-student-staff recognition.

Our students have made research presentations in conferences and won prizes. We have continued promoting academic and professional success of our students through a supportive network, which includes tutoring, topical workshops, individualized pre-professional advising, research internships, volunteer experience placements, invited lectures, faculty mentoring and student club activities.

The School aims to increase its enrollments further  through local High School and MEC pipeline initiatives, hire additional research active faculty, provide more in-house research experience to our students,  extend  degree offerings to include additional career-oriented programs in the allied health areas that have high employment prospects.
We welcome you to our website and invite you to explore it more and to learn about our programs.   Please do not hesitate to contact the Dean’s office or specific department offices.  We will be honored and happy to assist you.

With all the best,
Mohsin Patwary, Ph.D.
